Samurai food @ Roppongi(六本木幕末風侍居酒屋 芋侍@六本木)

We went to interesting Samurai bar at Roppongi last night called Izakaya Imozamurai(芋侍) where surrounded by bunch of Samurai goods. I would say this place is amusing as the floor and their menu have a sort of Samurai flavor. For example, they have following Samurai-flavor menus:
  • Samurai Katsu (侍勝つ, which means “Samurai wins”, but it actually it is a cutlet)
  • Tennen Rishin Ryu Itame(天然理心流炒め), I guess this is a one of Japanese Kendo school? Not too sure.
  • Bunmei Kaika Chicken Nanban(文明開化のチキン南蛮), which means ..?? Chicken with tartar sauce.
Interesting, isn't it? :D The taste is good. Seems they have Twitter account (http://twitter.com/imosamurai777), so that you may be able to check the latest news out through Twitter. They only have Japanese updates though :(

Shanghai cuisine @ Shibuya(上海食堂@渋谷)

Shanghai Shokudo (上海食堂) at Shibuya does pretty good deal for its Shanghai food lunch. For instance, they have 500 yen daily lunch which is one of the cheapest cuisine in Shibuya.

The good thing to have lunch here is that we can have several Shanghai food dished on one plate. This lunch is composed of Pepper steak (青椒牛肉), Ebi Chilli (乾燒蝦仁), Shengjian mantou (生煎饅頭), Almond jelly (杏仁豆腐), and soup and rice. It costs 600 -800 yen, I believe. Well, the taste is relatively okay, but at least its easy to try out as it only costs around 500 yen.

Tai-Pi-En (and Tofu) @ Roppongi(日高屋@六本木)

Well, I know your question. What is “Tai-Pi-En”? The answer here is, it's a kind of rice noodle originally from Kumamoto-prefecture. Basically as we can see there are loads of vegitables in the soup and the soup is based on pig-bone. Therefore, I would say this noodle is healthier than normal Ramen in terms of noodle-wise.

Frankly speaking, the taste is a sort of okay, but at least we can have bunch of vegitables here. Like other Chinese restraunt chain, they have many side dish options, so that I picked Tofu up this time. If I remember correctly, the cost was 900-1,000 yen in total. This picture is from Hidakaya (日高屋) at Roppongi.

Hashed beef rice @ Roppongi(博多筑前屋敷@六本木)

This creamy Hashed beef rice is from Hakata Chikuzen Yashiki (博多筑前屋敷) at Roppongi. Usually, Japanese bars provide pretty nice lunch options in reasonable price. Of course, Hakata Chikuzen Yashiki is one of them. For example, this nice volume Hashed beef rice is 900 yen.

By the way, the word “Hakata” is a name of the place in Kyushu (九州), the west side of Japan. Hence, we can have several Japanese west side style food although you are in Tokyo ;)

Tonkotsu Ramen @ Ebisu(太龍軒@渋谷)

Japanese people sometimes go to Ramen place after a drink, which is we are not too sure the reason why. In Ebisu, we have loads of loads of Ramen-places. Tairyu-ken (太龍軒) could be the one to drop by after happy time around Ebisu-station.

The base soup is made from pig-bones, vegitables, etc. Initially you feel its smell is a bit strange, but after you started to eat, you cannot stop eating. We can put some additional toppings such as spinaches, nori, eggs, and so fourth. My personal recommendation is spinach and egg, which make Ramen more and more tasty ;)

Fried chicken wings @ Ikebukuro(鳥良@池袋)

Are you looking for a nice fried chicken wing place in Tokyo? Then, now you know.

We can have pretty nice Japanese fried chicken wings a.k.a “Tebasaki (手羽先)” at Toriyoshi (鳥良) at Ikebukuro. Since Toriyoshi is a speciality store of chicken, they have several options for chicken lovers. For instance, they have fried chicken wings, Yakitori (grilled chicken), chicken barbecue, etc. For the fried chicken wings, we have three options for its taste: mild / semi-hot / super-hot. We would suggest you to try “super-hot” as its really spicy but tastes super good.

Well, if you worry about your healths, just order a salad which is also yummy ;)

Swara (sierra)'s Saikyou-yaki @ Hiroo(山藤@広尾)

Here is a truly Japanese healthy food from Yamafuji (山藤) at Hiroo, called Sawara (sierra)'s Saikyo-yaki. “Saikyo” means the west side of Kyoto, so that I believe this food originally comes from Kyoto. Basically, the sierra is cooked with Miso which tastes pretty good, so that both of its flavor and taste are awesome. Another good thing here is we can have several organic vegitables as a garnish. The cost is 900 yen.

One headsup I can put it here is this great “Saikyo-yaki” is limited for 10 dishes per eacy day. Hence you've got to be rushed if you cane make it ;)

Major Curry @ Akihabara(ゴーゴーカレー@秋葉原)

Here is “Major Curry” from Go-Go-Curry Akihabara branch. Go-Go-Curry is originally from Kagazawa prefecture where people eat curry with cabbag, cutlet, and with thick curry roux. People in Kanazawa eat curries by using folks which is unusual for most of Japanese who live outside of Kanazawa.

Anyways, as you can see, this “Major Curry” has pretty nice toppings; pork loin cutlet, chicken cutlet, sausage, a fried prawn, boiled eggs and cabbag. It only costs 1,000 yen. Nice volume, Nice taste, and nice price.
